Security Tips for Banking Services

We want your online experience to be pleasant and enjoyable. Banking online can be convenient and secure if you take a few simple precautions. Here are some security tips for banking online. We encourage you to peruse them before your next web access.

Security Tips For Online Banking:
1.Ensure that no one is watching you while you key in your Card Number (CIN), Personal Identification Number (PIN) or any other sensitive information.
2.Log off: Do not just close your browser. Follow the secure area exit instructions to ensure your protection.
3.Be aware of phony "look alike" websites which are designed to trick customers and collect their personal information. If you suspect a website that is not what it purports to be, leave the site. Do not follow any of the instructions it may present to you.
4.Safeguard your PIN. (See "Security Tips for Your PIN" in this page for details)
5.Never lend your card to anyone nor accept any advice from strangers while you are using it.
6.Do not use a shared computer or a device that cannot be trusted for online banking, such as an Internet Cafe computer.
7.Make sure your personal computer has the most current anti-virus software. Anti-virus software needs frequent updates to guard against new viruses. Make sure you download anti-virus updates as soon as you are notified that a download is available.
8.Install a personal firewall to help prevent unauthorized access to your personal computer, especially if you connect through a cable or DSL modem.
9.Clear your browser's cache and history after each session so that your account information is removed, especially if you are using a shared computer.
10.Use the latest recommended Internet Explorer or Netscape browser version, or one that supports 128-bit encryption. If you use Internet Explorer, you need to de-activate the "Auto Complete" function to prevent any CIN and PIN from being stored.
- Launch your Internet Explorer and click on "Tools">> "Internet Options">> "Content"
- Under "Personal Information", click on "Auto Complete"
- Uncheck "User names and passwords on forms" and click on "Clear Passwords"
- Click on "OK" to save the changes
11.Always ensure your operating system and browser has the latest security patches applied. If you are Microsoft users, go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com which will automatically check if your operating system and browser are up to date and provide the security patches at your request.
12.If you are using a Windows OS, ensure "File & Print sharing" is disabled while online, particularly if you are linked to the Internet via any broadband connection, digital subscriber lines or cable modems.
13.Do not install software or run programs from an unknown origin.
14.Check your accounts on a regular basis and contact us immediately should you encounter any difficulties or irregularities.

A fraudulent email is one that has been forged so it looks like a legitimate email from a particular organization such as Citibank. Although rare, fraudulent emails claiming to be from Citibank have been reported. While they haven't compromised Citibank's systems in any way, we take these incidents seriously and work with law enforcement agencies to investigate them.

To ensure that you're dealing with Citibank and not an imposter via emails, please always keep the following tips in mind.

Security Tips For Email:

1.Citibank will never send you an email asking for your account number, PIN, account balance and identity card/passport number or other sensitive information.
2.Be alert for fraudulent emails. These may appear to come from a trusted business or friend, but actually are designed to mislead you into jumping to a fraudulent website and disclosing sensitive information.
3.Be suspicious of any email that contains an embedded hyperlink or a request to enter personal information. Do not reply, click on the hyperlinks in the email or input any sensitive information.
4.If you've received suspicious emails purporting to be from Citibank, please notify us right away.
5.Email attachment from unspecified or suspicious sources may be virus or worm. Do not open any attachment unless you are sure it is safe.
6.Do not send sensitive personal or financial information unless it is encrypted on a secure website. Regular emails are not encrypted and are more like sending a post card.
7.If you have provided sensitive information to a suspicious website, you should report to the police immediately. If the website is purporting to be a Citibank site, please notify us right away.
8.If we request information from you, we'll always direct you back to a Citibank site using links. These are for your convenience - you can also reach our sites using any of our published URLs.
9.If you use a link in an email you receive from us, you can make sure that you are on a Citibank site by comparing the address of the site in the Address/Location area of your web browser to the table below:
Citibank WebsitesURL of Home Page
Citibankwww.citibank.com.hk (Hong Kong)
www.asia.citibank.com (Asia Pacific)
www.citibank.com or www.citi.com (U.S.)
Citigold Hong Kongwww.citigold.com.hk or
www.citigold.citibank.com.hk
Diners Club Hong Kongwww.dinersclub.com.hk
Citifiancial Hong Kongwww.citifinancial.com.hk
Citigold Private Clientwww.citigoldprivateclient.com

If you're required to enter personal information to perform an online transaction, it's always done on a site secured with SSL technology - you can tell because there'll be a padlock icon at the bottom of your screen. Most important, if you click on the padlock, information of a security certificate will pop up. In it, there's a section that says "Issued to:" If it's really a Citibank Hong Kong site, then the URL will always end in "citibank.com.hk"
